Christine Lush-Rodriguez Presents “One Night Only — Fortune Flowers,” a Bold Solo Sculpture Show for First Friday in Fredericksburg

Sculptor Christine Lush-Rodriguez invites the public into a charged, intimate universe of bloom, body, instinct, and inner knowing with One Night Only — Fortune Flowers, a solo exhibition opening First Friday, October 2, 2026, from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Bourbon Room inside the Ironclad Inn.

The exhibition transforms the historic Bourbon Room into a lush, provocative encounter with sculptural flowers that refuse to behave as decoration. Lush-Rodriguez’s flowers are talismans, warnings, portals, and mirrors—forms that ask viewers to stop searching outside themselves and begin listening inward.

Viewing herself as a 21st-century feminist, Lush-Rodriguez uses the flower not as a soft symbol, but as a radical one. Her work carries a direct message: women should “look within themselves for the answers they seek,” because “you have always been enough.” In Fortune Flowers, beauty comes with teeth. Fragility becomes armor. The feminine is not ornamental—it is oracular.

Presented for one night only, the show lands during Fredericksburg’s First Friday, when downtown galleries, restaurants, shops, performances, and pop-up experiences draw the city into the streets. Visitors are invited to step inside the Bourbon Room, meet the artist, experience the work up close, and enter a space where sculpture becomes confession, invitation, and dare. As a gift from the artist, the first 75 attendees will receive a handmade clay fortune cookie and paper to write their own fortune—an intimate keepsake and a prompt to look inward.

About the Artist

Christine Lush-Rodriguez is a nationally recognized, award-winning clay sculptor whose work grows out of the tactile possibilities of earthenware, texture, glaze, and form. She shapes her oceanic and plant-based sculptures on the pottery wheel and by hand-building, then alters them with layered textures and low-fired underglazes and glazes that heighten their color, surface, and sense of organic movement.

Long before Fortune Flowers, Lush-Rodriguez had built a reputation for transforming clay into forms that feel botanical, marine, mythical, and deeply personal. Her practice reclaims the flower as a forceful contemporary image: sensual, defiant, symbolic, and self-possessed.

She has also played a major role in Fredericksburg’s three-dimensional arts community through her long history of leadership with Artful Dimensions Gallery, a local nonprofit gallery devoted to 3-D fine art and craft. As president and one of the gallery’s founding leaders, Lush-Rodriguez brought together her experience as an art educator, fundraiser, program developer, and working artist to help create a space for dimensional artists to exhibit, teach, gather, and build community.

That civic work gives this one-night solo show additional resonance. For years, Lush-Rodriguez has helped make room for other artists’ voices in Fredericksburg; on October 2, the focus turns fully to her own, with clay flowers that speak in the language of intuition, memory, and inner authority.
