The Colonial Beach Historical Society & Museum Presents Guest Speaker Patricia Neleski Master Composter, Garden Historian, and National Park Service Volunteer Garden Interpreter Lecture Gardening Like George Washington: Colonial Composting & Garden Hacks for Today May 6th, 5pm-7pm Step back in time and discover how the gardening wisdom of George Washington is still relevant for today’s gardeners. In this engaging talk, Master Composter and garden historian Patricia Neleski explores Washington’s passion for farming, sharing fascinating insights from his diaries and letters about composting, soil care, and innovative gardening techniques. Gardeners in the Northern Neck face many of the same challenges Washington did more than 250 years ago—heavy clay soil, squirrel invasions, and unpredictable spring weather. Patricia will reveal practical garden and compost hacks inspired by Washington’s methods, offering both history and helpful tips for modern gardeners.
