We’re honored to have Bulent Atalay, offer a free lecture to members on Leonardo da Vinci in the Member’s Gallery.

For four decades, Bulent Atalay served as a professor of physics at Mary Washington. A scientist, artist, author, and lecturer, was described by NPR, PBS, and the Washington Post as a “Modern Renaissance Man.” His academic background is in theoretical physics, distilled from work at Georgetown, the University of California – Berkeley, Princeton, Oxford, and the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. He travels around the world lecturing at universities and cruise ships on his “A-subjects,” art, archaeology, astrophysics, and atomic physics, confessing that he knows much less about the “B-subjects,” business, banking, biology, and botany.

Atalay is the author of three books on the intersection of art, science, and mathematics. The first two, Math and the Mona Lisa and Leonardo’s Universe, focused mainly on Leonardo. In his third and most ambitious book, Beyond Genius, he examines the internal and external factors that created Leonardo, Shakespeare, Newton, Beethoven, and Einstein, five “transformative geniuses.” Visit his website at www.bulentatalay.com
