"A small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can indeed change the world." - Margaret Meade, Anthropologist Do you have a passion for teaching and being outdoors? Or perhaps you enjoy a hard days work maintaining hiking trails and cleaning up shorelines? Then you should come volunteer with Virginia State Parks! Every second Sunday at 2pm, Widewater State Park hosts a volunteer orientation in the Visitor Center for folks interested in volunteering at Widewater. Orientations are an hour long, where a ranger will discuss what it means to be a VSP volunteer, benefits, and opportunities available at Widewater. You will fill out a Background Check form to turn in if you decide to sign up to volunteer. You can also download the form here, fill it out, and sign in blue or black ink to turn in at the orientation. Whichever state park is your passion, there is always a variety of volunteer opportunities available for you to participate in. Leading kayak tours, trail maintenance, and educational programming are some opportunities available at Widewater State Park. You can email the Widewater Volunteer Coordinator, Ellen Hillborn, with any questions at ellen.hillborn@dcr.virginia.gov.
